How do I clean my behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids?

The following daily maintenance routines will help you get the best performance and value from your behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids. It only takes a few minutes a day and will extend the life of your hearing aids.

  • Wipe your earmold daily with a moist cleansing wipe or tissue.
  • Check the opening of the earmold and carefully remove any wax. The opening should never be blocked.
  • Earmolds can be washed in warm water with gentle soap, weekly at most.
  • The earmold must be removed from the hearing aid before washing. Your hearing aids must never come in contact with liquids.
  • The earmold and tubing must be completely dry before reattaching to your hearing aid.
  • Check your hearing aid to ensure any buttons, dials and the battery door are working smoothly.
  • Contact your Connect Hearing clinic if you feel any discomfort while wearing your earmold, if you are unable to remove wax from the opening, if the tube turns yellowish or brittle or if you notice any changes in the sound quality of your hearing aid.
