How do I clean my open fit (OTE) or CRT hearing aids?

Following these daily tips will help you to maintain your open fit (OTE) or Canal Receiver Technology (CRT) hearing aids, to improve their performance and extent their life.

  • If your hearing aid has a dome, this should be replaced every few months or as directed by your hearing care professional.
  • Clean the dome and the receiver daily with a moist cleansing wipe or tissue.
  • Your external receiver may have a wax guard. If so, it should be changed approximately every 4-6 weeks as directed.
  • Wax guards should be changed sooner if they are visibly blocked or the sound seems quieter.
  • If your hearing aid has a custom earmold, it should be wiped daily with a moist cleansing cloth or tissue.
