Many cellphones and land-line models have the speaker function, but not many people take advantage of this simple tool that can go a long way to protecting hearing. We are continuing with our top 10 new year's resolutions for healthy hearing, and No. 7 is devoted to this universal bit of technology that should be put to better use.
#7 Resolution for Healthy Hearing: Enable the Speaker Function
When you enable the speaker function on your phone, you will lessen the stress your ears feel. The speaker function also allows you the freedom of having your hands free to take notes, type emails or perform another task while speaking.
"Obviously, you're not going to put the speaker function on in a crowded place or an office setting, but when you're alone at home or in your car, then the speaker tool is one that makes sense," says MJ DeSousa, our Director of Professional Practice.
It's no secret that constantly listening to loud music through your ear buds can put you at risk for hearing loss. Fortunately there is a "app for that" as this news report features an application that can actually warn listeners if their music is too loud.
