An Apple a Day May Keep Your Ears Young in 2014

How is this for a healthy hearing recipe? According to three studies eating healthy, taking vitamins and drinking wine may be just what the doctor ordered.Hearing Healthy

A report in Science Direct says Vitamins A, C, E plus magnesium are important in the fight against hearing loss: "Free radical formation in the cochlea plays a key role in the development of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL)." But the report goes on to say that antioxidant agents in vitamins A, C, and E work with magnesium to prevent noise-induced trauma.

A new study by NCBI.com backs up Science Direct in an article entitled "C supplementation reduces noise-induced hearing loss in guinea pigs."

Meanwhile, MensHealth.com reported on a new study in "Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS)" that it was discovered that Resveratrol (found in red wine) and Quercetin (found in apples) can protect hearing. MensHealth.com wrote, "Resveratrol may inhibit the inflammation that leads to hearing loss and other diseases." The article also praised fish and fortified cereals.

OHNS estimates in the article that 10 million Americans have some noise-induced hearing loss – which is a big reason why Connect Hearing encourages free hearing tests at locations across Canada.
