Hear What You’ve Been Missing - Unchained Melody

In celebration of Valentine's Day, our "Hear what you've been missing" post features arguably the most famous love song ever recorded... "Unchained Melody" as performed by the Righteous Brothers.

Imagine you struggled with hearing loss and could not fully hear this song as it is meant to be heard especially on Valentines day. I am going out on a limb to guess that this song must hold some sort of memory for everyone. For me it was my parents wedding song, they listened to it every anniversary and they cried when it was featured in the 1990 movie "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.

Here are some quick facts about the song:

  • Written in 1936 by Hy Zaret and first performed in 1955 by Alex North it has become one of the most recorded songs in history with over 500 covers.
  • Was used as the theme song for the prison film Righteous.
  • Song was nominated for an Oscar in 1955 but lost.
  • The 1965 version performed by the Righteous Brothers is the most popular, especially after it was featured in the movie Ghost.
