Sounds of Summer: Canada’s Best Music Festivals

Billy Joel, Bryan Adams, Lady Gaga, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Cochrane, Bruno Mars and Eminem are just a few big names that will be making appearances at music festivals across Canada this summer.Connect Hearing Sounds of Summer

At Connect Hearing, we love music and music festivals. One reason is because we are in the business of helping people hang on to the sounds they love. Not surprisingly, one of the first things many people who regain their hearing do – especially after a long time living with hearing loss – is listen to their favourite songs on the radio or in concerts.

We encourage people to visit our clinics for free hearing tests so that they can get the facts about hearing loss and deal with any health issues they may be going through. Many people who come back to see us after getting their hearing restored tearfully talk about the joy of reconnecting with the sounds of family, friends, old hobbies and their favourite songs.

M.J. DeSousa, Connect Hearing’s Director of Professional Practice, is hoping that Canadians will get out and support local music festivals, but not just for the love of music.

“This summer, thousands of us are going to get out and see bands from around the world putting on a show on Canadian soil,” says DeSousa. “But what I want you to remember as you enjoy these musical extravaganzas is that according to the World Health Organization over 360 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss – and that includes thousands of Canadians. As you celebrate the gift of music this summer, take the opportunity to learn all that you can about how to maintain your hearing health.”

And remember, while you enjoy the music be aware of noise levels as some concerts really jack up the volume. Hearing loss has hit the entertainment industry hard, and some concerts can approach 120 to 150 decibels

So don't be afraid to carry along your own ear plugs and if necessary, move farther away from the speakers.

Below is a list of some of the best music festivals happening across the country. It's not a complete list – there are more festivals happening in Canada than we have room to cover in this space – but these are more than enough to help get you started in your 2014 summer musical journey. Enjoy the sounds of summer!
