Seahawks Ready to Make Super Bowl Noise

The Seattle Seahawks will take on the Denver Broncos at Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey.

It seems fitting that we’re talking about hearing loss and the Super Bowl in this article. On December 2, 2013 at CenturyLink Field, Seahawks fans set a Guinness world record for crowd noise at 137.6 decibels.

According to Dangerous Decibels, that’s even louder than a jet plane sounds from 100 feet away. These fans even caused a small earthquake during a playoff game this month.

Exposure to loud noises is one reason why Connect Hearing encourages football fans of all ages to come in for a free hearing test.

Deafening crowd noise is part of the game – especially during the Super Bowl – and nothing is going to change that. But there are things you can do to protect your hearing.

  • Take earplugs to the stadium or arena.
  • Make sure your children have hearing protection. One in five teenagers has some degree of hearing loss, the      Hearing  Foundation of Canada says.
  • Keep the volume on the radio and television at safe level.
  • Rest your ears after the game

Let’s spike the ball for hearing safety and make this Super Bowl the safest one ever!
