Coming in fifth in our list of new year's resolutions to improve your hearing health is something that is admittedly easier said than done. Staying clear of noisy situations in urban environments is difficult, but making the effort will help protect your hearing.
#5 Resolution for Healthy Hearing: Avoid Construction Sites
Cities are full of noisy situations that threaten your hearing health. Most of those encounters are difficult to avoid. When a police siren suddenly emerges in a busy street, you can do little but cover your ears with your hands or reach for a pair of earplugs that you should have in your purse or pocket. But it's possible to steer clear of some noisy environments. If you know where there are construction sites or fire stations, aim to take a path that keeps you away from them.
"If you're in a big city, you're going to face decibel levels that are unhealthy. Limit your exposure to those situations and you'll be better off," says MJ DeSousa, our Director of Professional Practice.
