This month, we are listing some of the world's Top Sounds of Summer. We list a quiet location and a more exuberant spot in each post. The second of five instalments features one of the globe's most heralded literary gatherings and a Spanish music fest that's not to be missed.
Edinburgh International Book Festival, Scotland
The human voice speaks at 60 decibels, well within comfort levels of the human ear. At Edinburgh's acclaimed annual literary festival, you'll enjoy listening to some of the planet's finest wordsmiths telling you stories that are sure to please the ear, inspire the mind and possibly warm the heart. If your travel schedule allows you to go, the 2013 festival takes place from August 10-26.
Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, Spain
What makes this festival so compelling isn't only the lineup. Benicàssim is within walking distance to a splendid Spanish beach. This year's event just culminated. It featured such raucous acts as The Killers, the Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age. For music festivals with that kind of powerful lineup, pack noise-dampening headphones with you before you head to the show.
